Hyatt Place Waco - South

Since we've drove through Waco all our lives and haven't spent any time here. My wife and I stayed here for our 28th wedding anniversary. We made plans for the Cameron Park Zoo, the businesses brands and restaurants owned by Chip & Joanna Gaines. As we've always wanted to go see their Silos, Silos Baking Company, Magnolia Press, Magnolia Market and Magnolia Table Restaurant. While my wife and I loved the hotel of which is also dog friendly, the service, the gym, housekeeping and our room was excellent. But the breakfast not so much and I'm being nice. We arrived 30 minutes before they closed the breakfast bar, there wasn't much available, the attendant was rude to my wife, and what I managed to put together as breakfast tacos was awful, but the coffee was good, unfortunately coffee isn't a meal. Other than that you will enjoy you're stay but you're better off going out or having something delivered. Also the indoor pool is very nice but isn't heated. And while I tolerated it being freezing cold exercising while doing my laps, at least 3 families walked away instead of enjoying what was included with the hotel facilities.

In one word to describe this hotel: FANTASTIC!!! Everything is so clean and Cynthia did such an awesome job keeping the breakfast area clean and beautiful for the customers. Cynthia is so sweet and always helps the customer with whatever request they need. This hotel stay includes breakfast and it is really good! The breakfast has eggs, pancakes, potatoes, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt with fresh berry compot,…just to name a few. The staff is so sweet and the sales manager is the best too and so accommodating! The hotel is surrounded by beautiful green fields. Literally a spectacular vacation spot and will go again in the future!! Awesome job!

We rented through Expedia, the pictures online look very nice, updated & clean. Unfortunately that’s not how the room we got was at all. Over priced room & very disappointed…. There is hardly any water pressure at all. From the bathroom sink to the shower NO pressure. The toilet didn’t flush more than half the time. Not many channels to view on tv. The breakfast was awful. The heat kept blowing out cold even with it being set at 77 degrees. The room didn’t have any hand towels or face towels & the pillows were very uncomfortable & to top it off the room was extremely DIRTY! Thank goodness the front desk girl that allowed us to check in just a tad earlier was very nice, that’s the best thing the hotel had… needless to say we probably won’t be visiting Waco again…

check-in went smooth. The lobby seemed pristine outside of the area they had cordoned off for the construction. Put my bags in the room and left to go handle business for work. Returned after work and dinner, around 9 o’clock. While using the restroom, there was a huge gnat or fruit fly in the sink. I grabbed a Kleenex and killed it. later that evening, there was another one in the restroom and I managed to kill it. Went to bed because it was so late and I didn’t really want to move rooms. When I woke and went to shower, I really wish I had left the hotel entirely. There were several more of those big nasty bugs in the restroom and in the shower. When I was checking out, I mentioned it to the front clerk and he apologized immensely and said they wanted to see what he could do with the manager and gave me her card. He said that she would call me prior to fully checking me out. A little after 1 PM. I received the bill from being checked out. I had not heard from the manager so I called her. She gave an excuse that because I booked through a third-party side she could not do any type of comp for the room and apologized that there were bugs. and she said they had the exterminator out to spray a few days before so that should not be an issue. originally when I wanted to talk to someone, I was not necessarily expecting anything, but after talking to her, and the way that I was brushed off, it made me feel like the health and cleanliness for patrons visiting the hotel did not matter.

Very poor build quality! The doors don’t close all the way on their own, the shower doesn’t drain, the entire shower assembly moves when pulling the shower pin, the bathroom fan isn’t connect to a switch or light, the walls are poorly painted, there are wall mounts left in the walls, there are cracks in corners and seams of the walls, none of the sanitizer dispensers even had a bag in them, and lastly (that I noticed) the elevator tiles are broken and loose. I highly recommend corporate send someone to inspect the build quality! Room 216 for reference

I called before booking (the week before my arrival date) to inquire about an early check in. I was bringing my toddler and planned to arrive earlier than the standard check-in time. The person I spoke with said it shouldn’t be a problem, but they couldn’t confirm for sure until the morning of my arrival and they advised me to call back around 10 or so. I called back the morning of my arrival as instructed and was told they still didn’t know so I would need to call back around noon. I called back around noon and was told they still didn’t know so I decided just to wait until the regular check in time at that point. I arrived just after 3 and was given keys, only to arrive to a room that had not been cleaned after the previous guest checked out (as shown in photos below.) I immediately went back down to the front desk to inform them of this and they told me that I would need to wait another hour to check in so the room could be cleaned. This was frustrating and absolutely unacceptable especially considering the fact that I had been trying to get an early check in… and couldn’t even check in on time. During this day, there were several other issues— -Once I finally got to the room after it had been cleaned, I noticed our refrigerator was not cooling at all. We did get a replacement, but again inconvenient, considering I had food that needed to be kept cold. -Ants! My daughter apparently dropped the smallest crumb of her muffin one morning before we left and when we arrived back to the room there were 50+ ants on the floor. -The hotel room doors slammed very loudly every time they closed, and there was no way to avoid it. -The pool is freezing cold. I inquired about the pool functioning before checking in as I saw others comment about it in reviews. I was told the pole was good to go however, that wasn’t the case. -The hotel is apparently undergoing renovations, which was not disclosed to me. When I walked out into the hall the first few mornings all I could see was a cloud of dust. It even set the fire alarms off one morning, which was a terrible way to wake up. -Speaking of terrible ways to wake up… It’s clear the front desk and housekeepers do not communicate well, and no one observes the do not disturb door hanger. I extended my stay a couple of times, and checked with the front desk to make sure all was in order to avoid being woken up by housekeepers banging on my door. However, that did no good because they would knock on my door every morning still one morning the housekeeper who was knocking at my door, spoke no English, and acted as though it was an issue that I couldn’t communicate with her efficiently. -Breakfast was underwhelming. -The bathtub and sink in my room were both clogged and there was an unpleasant smell coming from the sink. -The hallway trash cans were overflowing with trash multiple days. -The rooms do not come with microwaves in them. I realize that this is some thing I likely missed when reviewing amenities but my stay would’ve been better with a microwave so I didn’t have to bring my food back and forth through clouds of dust when using the microwave in the lobby. -The lady who worked overnight most of the nights we were there was friendly. However, all of the other ladies I dealt with during my stay either acted like they didn’t want me to bother them, or had unprofessional and rude attitudes. The younger girl working 11/22 around lunch was very rude and disrespectful. On the bright side, I suppose, the beds were comfortable and parking was great. The central location was the biggest perk.

My father was recently in Waco on a business trip and could not speak highly enough of his stay here. The room was extremely clean and the staff provided friendly service and maintained a positive atmosphere. The small, important touches made the stay that much more comfortable—especially when returning from a day packed with meetings. He will be staying here when he returns in the winter and couldn’t recommend it enough to those visiting the area.
